Toledo Geografico at the 2025 North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture Show

This is my piece Toledo Geografico that is currently on display at the North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture Show (www.nbossvt.com) in North Bennington, Vermont. If you visit the NBOSS website, you’ll find that there are 60+ pieces on display, in downtown North Bennington (where Toledo is sited in front of the old train station), at The Bennington Museum, and in downtown Bennington proper.
Toledo Geografico was inspired by a floor tile design by the Oaxacan artist Francisco Toledo (www.fransiscotoledo.com). Toledo (1940-2019) was an amazing painter, sculptor and designer who loved to push all boundaries. Should you find yourself in the fountain of art that is the city of Oaxaca, take the time to visit CASA, Centro Artistico San Augustin, It’s an easy cab or colectivo ride from the city to the small village of San Augustin where Toledo converted an old textile mill into galleries and workshops.
I stole his design (you’ll see it ceramic tile in various spots around Oaxaca), and enlarged it from its original 12″ X 12″ into this 48″ square, machine cut out of 3/8″ thick plate steel, and then elevated it. I hope that he would be pleased!
